I would like to put tape like this on my electric double bass until I can hear them without looking, which notes would you recommend as the best to mark initially.
Great question! I would definitely mark first position (A on the G string) and third position (C natural on the G string). From there fill in what you need. For example on the bass above you see that I’ve also marked the Bb and B natural on the G string since this helps beginners plant their fingers in the right place every time.
You can mark fourth position (D on the G string) but most people find that an easy note to find since it is usually right at the heel or crook of the neck.
